Princess Saira — The Anxious Hero
Saira is the protagonist: an anxious, introverted young woman who lives a sheltered life on Clitopolis as princess and daughter of two neglectful lesbian queens. Her defining trait is her inability to summon a labrys — the double-headed axe that symbolises lesbian power and which every other lesbian on the planet can conjure. The film frames this as a self-worth problem: the labrys only appears when Saira believes in herself.
After Kiki breaks up with her (for being "too needy") and is kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens, Saira makes the boldest choice of her life: she steals the Problematic Ship and leaves Clitopolis for the first time. Her journey — rescuing Willow, training with Blade, and finally confronting the Maliens — is really a journey toward self-love. She ends the film happily single, more social and comfortable in her own company.
Kiki — The Bounty Hunter Ex
Kiki is a bounty hunter who dates Saira for two weeks before breaking up with her, calling her "too needy". She's then kidnapped by the Straight White Maliens, who use her as bait to demand Saira's labrys.
Kiki is more than a damsel: she's a working professional with her own life, and the film refuses to treat her as a reward. When Saira rescues her and asks to get back together, Kiki says no — a decision critics praised for letting Saira's arc end in self-love rather than romance.
Willow — The Goth Pop Idol
Willow is a goth singer, songwriter and spacefarer — a former gay-pop idol — who Saira rescues from an abandoned moon crystal mine. Willow is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. The two become fast friends and briefly hook up, before Willow gently ends things so Saira can focus on saving Kiki.
Willow's arc pays off in the credits: they release a hit album about Saira, confirming the relationship mattered even if it didn't last. Willow is often cited by critics as the film's best supporting character.
Blade — The Drag Queen Who Betrays
Blade is a drag queen who owns a club, voiced by RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under star Kween Kong. Blade claims to help Saira summon her labrys — and genuinely does, by teaching Saira to be kind to herself. But Blade's real motive is theft: she tries to seize the labrys for herself. Willow and Saira fight back and decapitate her.
In a characteristically absurd twist, the credits reveal Blade survived the decapitation and now runs family therapy sessions for Saira's family. Blade is the film's clearest example of its belief that everyone — even a betraying drag queen — deserves a second chance.
Queen Leanne — Saira's Mother
Queen Leanne (voiced by Jordan Raskopoulos) is one of Saira's two mothers and a co-ruler of Clitopolis. She is loving but neglectful — more interested in ruling and in her disappointment that Saira can't summon her labrys than in Saira herself. Her arc completes in the credits, where the family (plus a decapitated-but-alive Blade) attends family therapy together.
Queen Anne — Saira's Other Mother
Queen Anne (voiced by Madeleine Sami) is Saira's other mother and co-ruler of Clitopolis. Together with Queen Leanne, she rules the planet and shares the same mix of love and neglect toward Saira — the two queens' joint disappointment about the labrys is part of what pushes Saira out of her shell. The Leader — Malien Boss
The Leader (voiced by Mark Bonanno) is the head of the Straight White Maliens — the one who announces the kidnapping plan and demands Saira's labrys. He's the most confident of the three, and the most deflated when the chick magnet proves his worldview wrong. By the end he's part of the film's surprise throuple.
Larry — Malien Number Two
Larry (voiced by Zachary Ruane) is one of the Straight White Maliens. Like the others, he's defined by a desperate need for female attention that the chick magnet can't satisfy. His arc ends with the trio's realisation that they should date each other instead.
Josh — Malien Number Three
Josh (voiced by Broden Kelly) is the third member of the Straight White Maliens.
